Jewellery that makes you feel good
1 Grey Street, Wellington, New Zealand. 04 471 2814
Gavan Riley was born in New Zealand. He went to England in 1966 to further his education and attained a BSc with honours at the University of Kent. In 1976 he began working at his brother's jewellery workshop, "The Great Frog", in Carnaby Street in London and designed and made jewellery there until 1988.
His work included stage jewellery for rock groups and jewellery for television shows and film companies, including the BBC and Walt Disney. Gavan has created, among many notable pieces, Hercule Poirot's amphora lapel pin for the Agatha Christie television series and the prominently featured locket in the movie "A Fish Called Wanda". (NB. Because the amphora brooch was made specifically for the BBC production Gavan no longer reproduces it.)
He returned to New Zealand in 1988 and concentrates on the flora and fauna jewellery which reflects his New Zealand origins. His extensive collection is available in sterling silver, gold and platinum. He lives north of Auckland, by the sea, and in his own words is "having fun."
